Phillip Schofield says 'I'm leaving This Morning' after announcing new career

Phillip Schofield told ITV viewers on Tuesday “I’m leaving This Morning ” after the government’s careers survey suggested he should retrain as a paramedic.

The 58-year-old took the test after the government suggested those working in the arts could retrain and go down other career paths.

And after Phillip was put in the emergency responder field, he said on Tuesday’s show: “I’ve just announced I’m leaving This Morning and I’m going to become a paramedic.”

A shocked Holly Willoughby told him it was “nice knowing him” – though he was luckily only joking.

However it wasn’t just a random conversation, as Phil and Holly welcomed on stars of Ambulance, mother-daughter paramedic duo Nicky and Maisie.

The London Ambulance Service team members spoke of their lives as paramedics and what it was like working together as a mother and daughter.

They explained that they currently weren’t working in the same ambulance, as Maisie was stationed at a different centre.

But they reckoned Phil would do well in the field, as Maisie said: “You’ve just got to be kind and make people laugh.”

His co-star and close friend Holly agreed, saying he’d do fine if that was the case.

Of course, Phil won’t actually be leaving This Morning, though it seems he is still interested in paramedic work.

He told Holly: “My uncle was a paramedic and I was so impressed by what he could do, I loved all that.”

On Twitter, the London Ambulance Service were very welcoming to Phil saying: “We think you’d be great!”

They shared a screenshot of Phil’s retraining options, which also included a soldier, which he didn’t seem as keen for.

The government’s careers quiz caused a major stir on social media, with many users sharing the bizarre results they’d got, from professional boxers to actors.

Interest in the questionnaire came after Rishi Sunak said people “in all walks of life” should consider a new career if they found themselves unemployed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

However it was met with criticism and confusion, with professional writers being told they should instead enter the sports industry.

Meanwhile, some people were told they could not be recommended any of the available job categories.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
