Piers Morgan blasts government's GMB boycott with savage 'cowards' tweet

Piers Morgan didn’t hold back in his latest Twitter post, accusing the government of cowardice in their alleged boycott of Good Morning Britain.

Marking 49 days since an MP has appeared on the show, Piers referred to “white feathers” in the tweet – a wartime symbol of weakness.

He said: “UPDATE: Tomorrow will be the 49th day of the Govt’s boycott of @GMB during our worst crisis since WW2.

“Anyone got any white feathers?”

During the First World War, men seen not wearing an army uniform were given white feathers, implying they were “cowardly” in their refusal to enlist for military service.

Piers has been vocal in his anger over the apparent government boycott, last week taunting the parliament over the show’s rising ratings during the lockdown.

The GMB host received hundreds of Ofcom complaints over his treatment of politicians on the show at the beginning of the pandemic, with many accusing Piers of “bullying” his guests.

Interviews with Matt Hancock and Minister for Care Helen Whateley were met by a backlash, with some taking issue with Piers’ tone of voice during the conversations.

Since then, it has been over one month since an MP has appeared on the show, despite several politicians accepting invitations to appear on GMB’s rival show, BBC Breakfast.

Fuming over the alleged boycott last week, Piers said: “Interesting how so many Tory MPs are saying, ‘Get back on the programme, it’s pathetic.'”

His co-host Susanna Reid agreed, saying: “Actually it’s a dereliction of duty to our viewers and your voters.”

Insisting he didn’t “care,” Piers continued: “And of course, we don’t care. Our ratings have never been higher. Literally never been higher.

“The less we have government ministers, the more people tune in. Maybe don’t hurry back. Maybe we’ll see you in September.”

Making light of her co-star, Susanna then accused Piers of sounding a bit “Trump-esque” in his comments.
