Sunday Brunch in chaos as chef's frying pan bursts into flames in fire fiasco

Sunday Brunch viewers feared the fire brigade might need to intervene during today’s episode when a guest chef’s frying pan burst into flames.

Chef Jeremy Pang from School Of Wok appeared on the show, joining Simon Rimmer as he demonstrated the preparation of watercress gyoza.

Unfortunately, the pro chef accidentally added a little too much oil to his wok, as when the dumplings were added, it was suddenly engulfed by flames.

Taking the fire in his stride, he joked the pan had maybe “overheated a bit” as he continued to prepare the gourmet dish.

Thankfully, Chef Jeremy managed to control the blaze, proving his talent in the kitchen as he delivered a delicious meal moments later.

Taking to Twitter, Sunday Brunch viewers were left in stitches over the dramatic combustion, as they cracked jokes about the near-disaster.

One said: “Try not to set your kitchen in fire, mate! #SundayBrunch”

“Time to call the fire brigade,” quipped a second.

And a third chimed: “That’s one way to set your kitchen on fire…”

For the rest of the episode, the Channel 4 presenters made a running joke of the unexpected blaze, throwing “fire” puns into every segment of the show.

Host Simon took the opportunity to poke fun at the fire, adding: “I mean that… Was pretty hot.”

Turning to viewers at home, he said: “So, you know, it is hot. Go careful, maybe wear goggles.

“Would you maybe have had that slightly not quite as hot, Jeremy, in the real world?”

Thankfully, Jeremy was able to take the jesting on the chin, as he replied: “Maybe a little bit lower heat, but then again it’s live TV. You’ve got to showboat a little.

“That was definitely on the hotter side that I expected, but they’re crisping up pretty quickly!”

Sunday Brunch airs at 9.30am on Sundays on Channel 4.
