Alastair Campbell takes savage swipe at Meghan Markle on GMB over new book

Alastair Campbell appeared to be following in Piers Morgan’s footsteps as he took a savage swipe at Meghan Markle during Tuesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain.

He and co-host Susanna Reid were chatting to Diversity dance head Ashley Banjo about the Black Lives Matter controversy on Britain’s Got Talent.

The conversation soon took a turn to Ashley’s latest endeavour – penning a children’s book.

“Everyone’s writing children’s books now!” Alastair said.

“You’re way better than Meghan, we know that,” he told Ashley, who laughed.

Meghan has just announced the release of her own children’s book, dubbed The Bench, which focuses on father-child relationships.

Piers Morgan was among the first to hit out at the Duchess for penning a book despite having “disowned” her own father, criticising what he called her “seemingly unlimited thirst for committing attention-seeking acts of gargantuan hypocrisy”.

Meghan has said she hopes the book will “resonate with every family, no matter the make-up.”

It is based on a poem she wrote for her husband Prince Harry to celebrate Father’s Day.

Now heavily pregnant with the couple’s second child, Meghan seems well placed to be able to pull off the title.

But she has been called out by Piers for putting her royal title on the cover – despite she and Prince Harry ditching their titles when they made the move to the US.

In his Mail Online column, Piers wrote: “When it comes to flogging her book, what author name does Meghan Markle use?

“Ah, of course: ‘Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex’.”

However, it is only the HRH titles which they officially dropped – meaning Harry retains his Prince status and Meghan is still a Duchess.

Meanwhile, Ashley has penned his book along with his brother and Diversity co-star Jordan.

Dubbed Fly High Crew, it features aliens taking over the adults of the world, and kids banding together to stop them.

“That is a brilliant novel opening!” Alastair congratulated Ashley on the opening of his own book, which included the word ‘cataclysmic’.

“Even if they don’t know what cataclysmic means, they’ll know when they read it that it’s a big word that really matters in the book,” he continued.

“You can stick my quote on the paperback – brilliant first paragraph: Alastair Campbell!” Alastair went on to joke.

As Alastair read the first paragraph of the book aloud, one viewer turned to Twitter to pen: “Any chance of getting @campbellclaret to read the @AshleyBanjo book in lycra on a bike?”

Asked if he would be returning to Britain’s Got Talent as a judge this year, Ashley doubted it as he expected Simon Cowell would want to return now that he has seemingly recovered from his back injury.

Ashley had replaced him for the live semi-final and final shows last year after Simon injured himself on a bike.
