Actor Alec Baldwin has said there are “no words” to convey his shock and sadness following the death of Halyna Hutchins.
He has issued a statement following the tragic incident which occurred after he fired a prop gun which killed the crew member on the Bonanza Creek Ranch while shooting film Rust.
In the statement, he said: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.
“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family.
“My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
The Santa Fe County New Mexico Sheriff confirmed that the 68-year-old shot two people on a movie set with a prop firearm which would usually be loaded with blanks.
The director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, 42, and director Joel Souza, 48, were both shot.
Ms Hutchins tragically died after she was transported by helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital.
Director Joel Souza was discharged and safely left the hospital following the incident in the early hours of Friday morning.
Police have stated that the investigation remains open and no charges have been filed, as witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.
A local reporter from ABC News claimed the gun was fired during a scene that was being filmed or rehearsed.
This afternoon Alec was seen looking upset outside of the sheriff’s office.
Dressed in a navy-blue T-shirt, the dad-of-seven was seen hunched over by the side of the road as he came to terms with the tragic news as filming came to a halt on the set of Rust.
Later on, the actor was spotted anxiously calling someone to explain the horrific accident as he held his face mask out by the desert.
Alec has said he is currently working with the police to address how the tragedy occurred.
