Amanda Holden admits she was so poor her mum made her steal Sugar Puffs as kid

Amanda Holden has revealed she used to steal Sugar Puffs in order to feed herself – after her mum asked her to steal the breakfast cereals due to them being so poor.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge is reportedly worth a whopping £20million these days following her hugely successful television career of acting and presenting shows like BBC’s I Can See Your Voice.

But clearly things were very different for 50-year-old Amanda when she was a child – so bad in fact that her family would struggle to afford food.

Speaking about when times were tough for her financially, she confessed to former Chatty Man presenter Alan Carr that there was once a time when her mother, Judith, urged Amanda and her sister Debbie to steal cereal from a local breakfast bar after they ran out of cash following a trip away.

She told Alan Carr’s Life a Beach podcast: “We’d spent all our money on holiday and we came back on a ferry and my mum told me to go and nick milk and Sugar Puffs from the breakfast queue.

“She said to me, ‘Amanda if you want any breakfast you’ll have to steal it’.”

During her very honest confession, a guilty Amanda then quickly added: “My mum will kill me for admitting this.”

Since her time stealing Sugar Puffs, Amanda has gone on to achieve an incredible television career – and earlier this year she signed a record-breaking television deal with Channel 4.

The upcoming presenting job will have her making history as a TV Golden Girl as the first person to work across the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 stations.

An inside source said at the time: “This is the first time Amanda has worked with Channel 4.

“It’s a top-secret brand new show format and will take Amanda back to her TV roots, having started out on shows like Kiss Me Kate, Hearts and Bones and Cutting It in the Nineties. Everyone wants a piece of Amanda right now.

The BGT judge has already been a permanent judge on I Can See Your Voice, where she appears alongside host Paddy McGuinness as well as This Morning’s Alison Hammond and comedian Jimmy Carr to try and figure out who can and can’t sing.

She’s also set to reprise her judging duties on Simon Cowell’s BGT for the series coming up later this year on ITV.

And she’s a presenter on Heart FM with her co-star Jamie Theakston – but it’s unlikely she’ll be turning her talents to the football pitch anytime soon.

That’s because she suffered a hilarious on-air blooper where she slipped over after playing a game of football to celebrate the Euros that took a turn for the worse.
