Amanda Holden defended by fans after 400-mile round trip to visit parents

Amanda Holden’s recent breach of lockdown rules has been defended by countless fans.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge, 49, took a 400-mile round trip to visit her parents after receiving a distressing family phone call.

However under the current lockdown rules, travel is banned except for essential journeys.

While Amanda’s error in judgement was slammed by countless critics on social media, defiant fans rushed to the mum-of-two’s defence following the backlash.

“People having a pop at Amanda Holden give ya heads a wobble,” wrote one fan.

“I am not keen on her but I know for sure if my mum was still alive and needed me I would there in a flash… Pandemic or no Pandemic!”

Another penned: “If Amanda Holden had popped down to Cornwall for a jolly, I’d understand the outrage.

“But if I was miles away from my mum and she was elderly and called me distressed, you best believe I’d be in the car before the phone call was over. Anyone who says they wouldn’t is lying.”

While a third fan threw their support behind the Heart radio presenter, adding: “Can everyone just let this go? She went for an emergency, not for a holiday.”

However despite the messages Amanda has received from some fans, the criticism seemed to have outweighed the support.

“Are we allowed to be suspicious about the proximity to her 50th birthday?” wrote one person.

Another tweeted: “I’m not in favour of people snitching and generally not interested in Amanda Holden, but I still think she should be honest and say she just wanted to see her parents so could wish her happy 50th in person, and also pick up her presents.”

Amanda received the call on Friday afternoon and drove to near Bude in Cornwall from London.

The Sun reported her journey sparked fury in locals who accused her of endangering vulnerable residents.

Devon and Cornwall Police have warned visitors they face a fine, however it’s been reported that Amanda will not be getting one.

The star, who is set to turn 50 tomorrow, was seen getting out of a Mercedes at the home of her mum Judith, 71, and stepdad, Leslie, 75.

It is believed she had not seen them for a year due to Covid.

“Amanda is aware that all families are going through difficulty during these turbulent times but received a distressing telephone call from her elderly father,” her spokesperson said.

The spokesperson went on: “On balance Amanda felt the round trip necessary to contain the matter at her family home. The situation has now been aided and Amanda is back in London.

“She did not act on a whim and has adhered to Covid rules every step of the way in all lockdowns. Her parents are vaccinated and, with Amanda testing weekly, she felt she was not putting them at risk.

“She did not come into contact with the public.”
