Amy Winehouse's dad Mitch slams claims he 'pressured' her to perform while ill

A new Amy Winehouse documentary aired on Friday evening and showed a closer look at her family’s perspective on her life and death.

Her parents Mitch and Janis Winehouse wanted to share their thoughts and feelings on how they’ve been perceived by the media over the years.

The BBC documentary shared a series of throwback snaps and clips of the late superstar who died on the July 23 2011 at her house in Camden.

The talented singer passed away after a long battle with drugs, alcoholism and bulimia.

During a clip on the documentary, her dad was asked by producers about whether or not the claims were true that he put immense pressure on the star to keep performing when she was ill.

As over the years, he has come under fire for mistreating her and pushing her in the months creeping up to her death.

He shot the claims down and said: “That’s not true.

“I mean, there were times when she was performing when she wasn’t well, and I said to her you cant not to go on, and she’d go on.

“You couldn’t tell her to do something or not do something, if she was gonna do it, she would do it.

“Nobody controlled Amy, Amy was the governor.”

Amy fans watching the programme took to Twitter to share their thoughts and opinions on Mitch’s stance.

“Unless you’ve dealt with addiction first hand please don’t blame her family,” one fan penned.

Another added: “You can’t make someone get better. They loved her and they lost a daughter at 27 years old.”

Her close friends also brought up past concerns that they had about her, but note that if it was in 2021 that it could have been a different story.
