Les McKeown’s widow Peko Keiko has broken her silence after the shock death of the Bay City Rollers legend.
Les was just 65-years-old when he died from a suspected heart attack.
Speaking about their three decade long marriage, Peko said: “I met Leslie when he was working as a manager in a Japanese sushi restaurant that had a Karaoke bar in the basement in London.
“He said, ‘Hello Suzie Woo’ and that was it.”
Reminiscing, she added to Mail Online: “Leslie said to me, ‘Would you like to go for a movie after dinner?’
“I said, no I can’t go to the movie, I have a job.
“Then he gave me his card and wrote his number on the back. I put it in my pocket.”
Peso explained that she didn’t call him for a long time and had no idea he was in group Bay City Rollers.
She explained that their music wasn’t too her taste so they weren’t on her radar.
In 1978 the couple started dating before moving in together after their long distance relationship struggled under the pressure.
Peso added: “I went to Los Angeles for a week and he was so happy to see me.
“I was only there for a week and Les asked me to stay longer. I said no I had to go back to my job.
“He asked me to choose between my job or him. After that we decided, he would come to London.”
McKeown would stay in her flat and go back and forth between his parents home and her apartment.
One morning she says he woke her up and surprised her by telling her they were getting married.
They ended up tying the not at Chelsea Town Hall on Kings Road but agreed to keep the nuptials secret for the sake of her parents who didn’t know.
They later went to Japan to have a wedding her parents could attend.
Les’s death was announced last week in a statement via Twitter.
The statement read: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband and father Leslie Richard McKeown.
“Leslie died suddenly at home on Tuesday 20 April 2021. We are currently making arrangements for his funeral and ask for privacy after the shock of our profound loss.”
