BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker mocks ITV rival Lorraine Kelly as she transforms into Adele

The BBC rivalry with fellow channel ITV was clear on Wednesday morning, as BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker hit out at Lorraine Kelly.

Lorraine, who has a show just after Good Morning Britain – BBC Breakfast’s biggest rival for viewing figures – had transformed into pop princess Adele for incredible new snaps.

Donning a sleek blonde wig and long scarlet false nails, Lorraine’s expression definitely rivalled that of the Easy On Me hitmaker – and could definitely be mistaken for the pop legend.

She donned a reflective black raincoat for the sultry snap, along with a burgundy turtleneck jumper and huge gold hoop earrings – a far cry from her usual appearance while hosting her own morning show.

But Dan wasn’t hugely impressed with her new look, as co-host Sally Nugent brought a newspaper segment of the transformation to his attention.

After Dan finished explaining the article he’d chosen about the importance of enzymes, Sally joked: “I’m really glad that you’ve highlighted a really important scientific story that will affect the environment.

“I’m gonna show you Lorraine Kelly dressed as Adele. That’s the news I’m bringing you today!”

“Set fire to Lorraine?” Dan joked – anticipating the headline in reference to Adele’s track Set Fire to the Rain.

Sally giggled as Dan acknowledged: “Oh, I’ve just stolen their headline!”

His co-host chirped: “That is in fact Lorraine Kelly, not Adele. She’s been transformed!”

But Dan wasn’t so impressed, as he sniped: “It’s quite clearly Lorraine Kelly, though, isn’t it?”

“Do you think?” Sally wondered, as he explained: “Well, yeah. Once you get up close, yeah.”

Lorraine looked incredible in the transformation snaps

Not one to argue on TV, Sally acquiesced: “Well, I haven’t got my glasses on.”

Lorraine had joined forces with Heat magazine for the sultry shoot for the publication’s end of year highlight – and it seemed an easy choice to opt for Adele as Lorraine describes her as “the best singer in the world”.

She told the publication: “This really is such a highlight for me. I just wish I could channel some of Adele’s talent! She is the best singer in the world!”

Lorraine added: “I’ve never been blonde in my life, so this is a big deal for me. I’m so interested to see what I look like with blonde hair, and I’ve never had giant nails, either.

“I love how Adele comes every five years, dominates the showbiz agenda, and then p***** off again and has her life! I think it’s so brilliant, I really do.”

Lorraine clearly had some doubts about going into the shoot, but admitted she hopes Adele will take the homage to her in her stride.

She added: “I’m paying tribute to the goddess that is Adele. I just hope she doesn’t mind a woman of my age being her!”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
