BBC's Sally Nugent shuts down Dan Walker as he teases Strictly routine 'inspiration'

Dan Walker was instantly shut down by his BBC Breakfast co-anchor, Sally Nugent on Tuesday’s instalment of the programme as he discussed Strictly Come Dancing.

The broadcaster revealed that he was taking “inspiration” from fellow BBC star Zoe Ball who appeared on the programme back in 2005.

During BBC Breakfast, Dan and Sally cut to the BBC Morning Live studio and were greeted by Janette Manrara and Gethin Jones who reflected on Janette’s “mission” to have the nation waltzing.

The former Strictly professional said: “My mission, to get us into Strictly fitness is to get us all waltzing, a move inspired by Zoe Ball and Ian Waite’s first dance on Strictly, back in 2005, look at her go.”

As the camera panned back to the Breakfast studio, Dan said: “Thank you very much, I’ll use that for a bit of inspiration, later.

“Can’t give anything away though, I’ll get in trouble, goodbye.”

As Dan mentioned that he would “get in trouble” for speaking, Sally instantly quipped: “Stop speaking”.

Ahead of today’s episode of Breakfast, Dan took to Twitter to share a revelation after BBC Radio 5 Live’s Rachel Burden asked how he was following Saturday’s performance.

The broadcaster responded: “Legs are a bit weary. I’ll be honest with you…

“I am really struggling with this week’s dance, nothing went in yesterday. It was just a sweaty mess.

“Back at it today with @NadiyaBychkova so hopefully something will click.”

He previously revealed that his daughter, Susanna, burst into tears as she congratulated him following his first performance.

Speaking about the moment on Monday’s edition of Breakfast, Dan said: “I sat down on the chair with Nadia and she sort of said, ‘Well done, you did really well.’

“Then I looked across to where Tess normally down, that’s where my wife and my daughter were sitting, and Suzi had tears pouring out of her eyes, like proper tears of joy, and she gave me this lovely little wave to say, ‘Well done, dad’.”

He went on to say: “That was one of the highlights of my entire life because she absolutely loved it and she’s the one, and her brother and sister, that’s why I decided to do the programme because they were desperate to watch it.

“So, that for me was perfect, the dance was great, I really enjoyed it, but that was what it was all about.”
