Cheryl is reportedly in a “dark place” over the death of her former Girls Aloud bandmate Sarah Harding.
The pop star has decided to take a short break from performing in order to focus on her wellbeing following Sarah’s death, according to a source.
The source claims that Cheryl has been hit “so hard” by the loss, and cannot think of performing at this time.
Sarah tragically passed away in September at the age of 39, after losing her battle with breast cancer.
The late singer had announced her cancer diagnosis in August 2020 before revealing that her condition was terminal in March this year.
A source told Closer magazine: “The shock and devastation have hit her so hard.
“She’s not in any mindset to think about performing so she’s taking a little break to prioritise her wellbeing.”
It comes after Cheryl dropped out of her performance at Birmingham Pride last month.
In an emotional statement about Sarah posted to Instagram, Cheryl had told fans that she was not “emotionally, mentally or physically” able to perform.
She opened up about the “grief” she was going through following Sarah’s death, stating that she was going through a “rollercoaster of emotions, questions without answers and pain without resolve”.
Cheryl shot to fame as a member of Girls Aloud alongside Sarah, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle.
The girl band was formed in 2002 during the ITV talent show, Popstars: The Rivals.
The group went on to achieve a whopping 20 consecutive Top 10 singles in the UK, including four No1 hits.
Following Sarah’s death on September 5, Cheryl paid a moving tribute to her friend on Instagram.
Sharing a snap of her and Sarah, she wrote: “Although we knew this day would arrive I am somehow still feeling at a loss for words that our stunning, unique, crazy, quirky, kind and soft hearted girl has departed.
“As I try to navigate my way through these painfully strange and horribly unfamiliar waves of disbelief & finality I am experiencing, I wanted to extend my condolences to all of our GA fans.
“We were like an extended family for so long and we know so many of you by name. I wanted to make sure you knew just how much your love and continued support meant to Sarah through her most vulnerable times.”
She went on: “She was so grateful and you really lifted her spirits when she needed you most.
“I also realise so many will be deeply affected by the circumstances of Sarah’s passing… I am sending you all so much love I love you Sarah… farewell.”
