On an episode of Who Do You Think You Are? comedian Josh Widdicombe was left gobsmacked as he discovered his family tree.
Josh revealed he was worried that his family tree would be “a bit boring” however, this was quite the opposite as the comedian actually descended from British and French royalty.
On an episode of Who Do You Think You Are? the show that discovered Danny Dyer was related to William the Conqueror, has told Josh that his 23x great grandfather was King of England, Edward I who ruled from 1272 to 1307.
38-year-old Josh is from a remote area of Dartmoor in Devon. When he was growing up there were only four people in his school year.
Due to King Edward I being married to the French royal family this means Josh’s 24x great grandfather was King Philip III of France.
It was also told that the comedian’s 13x great-grandmother Lady Katherine Knollys might have been a love-child of Henry VIII because there is evidence that her mother Mary, sister to his second wife Anne Boleyn was his mistress.
Henry VIII ruled from 1509 to 1547. He is famously remembered for being married six times to Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr.
The Last Leg star also found out his 10x great grandfather Henry Rich was the first Earl of Holland and was close to King Charles I.
However, King Charles I was beaten in the Second English Civil War by Oliver Comewell’s Parliamentarians, therefore, was executed in 1649 in Westminster for “high treason.”
Josh joked after his family tree had been revealed, he said: “To say it’s exceeded my expectations is the understatement of a lifetime. I was just expecting a couple of farmers. It’s proper blue blood, isn’t it?”
