Dragons’ Den contestant slams editing of show over his 'DNA protein shakes'

A Dragons’ Den contestant has hit out at the show over the editing of a comment that portrayed his business poorly.

Entrepreneur Jeremy Poland entered the den to get £50,000 for a 2.5% share in his business Nutri-Genix.

His unique business idea surrounded genetically personalised nutrition shakes and involved customers taking a DNA swab so he could better understand their metabolism.

He would then take this information and use it to tailor individual shakes depending on their nutritional debilitations.

He hoped to make a big impression on Dragons Deborah Meaden, Peter Jones, Sara Davies, Tej Lalvani and Touker Souleyman, particularly hoping to impress Vitabiotics CEO Tej with his interesting proposition.

While the pitch went well, things were not off to the greatest start when Deborah accidentally spilled her shake all over the floor of the den.

Things went from bad to worse when Sara tasted the product and did not hold back when she said: “It tastes bloody awful”.

However, Jeremy claims that the comment wasn’t as bad as it first appears.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk Jeremy said: “She basically had a taste of it and said that comment, but added that she ‘never liked the taste of protein shakes’. That’s really annoying actually that they cut that out.”

Speaking about Sara’s comment, Jeremy added: “Obviously, you don’t want someone to say that, because it’s on national television. But I think that it tastes good.”

Jeremy went on to say that despite being heavily grilled on his market research by Tej, he had been anticipating a harder time from the dragon.

“I was actually expecting more from Tej. I was expecting him to really challenge some of the science. I feel like he probably had a conflict of interest or something, because he didn’t really interrogate me as much as I thought he would.”

Unfortunately for Jeremy, Tej declared himself out, leaving Jeremy feeling “disappointed he didn’t engage a bit more” admitting that losing Tej was “deflating”.

But luckily two other dragons saw the promise of the product and Jeremy left the den with both Peter and Touker on board in exchange for 15% of his business.

Speaking about his experience on the show Jeremy said: “I had the pitch so clear in my mind. Because everything had been really chaotic, it was relaxing actually because there was nothing more to do. It was like almost walking into the eye of the storm.”
