Charlie Wernham is joining the EastEnders cast and is set to arrive in Walford very soon.
The 26-year-old actor is best known for playing Robbie Roscoe on Hollyoaks from 2013 to 2016 – but you might recognise him from some other TV programmes and movies, too.

Making Amanda Holden moan
In 2008 Charlie auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent, where he performed a variety of jokes and left the judges in fits of hysterics.
Piers Morgan, who was a judge on the show at the time, harshly said that the jokes were terrible, but the delivery of them was great.
Head judge and talent mogul Simon Cowell said: “We’ve had some rotten comedians on this show, but you’re the only one who’s made me laugh and told jokes that I could understand”.
While glowing Amanda Holden commented that he “made her moan”.
He got three ‘yes’ votes from the judges and was put through to the next round, before making it through the the live semi-finals.
In the semi-final on 29 May 2008, he performed a stand-up comedy routine. The performance brought largely positive comments from the judges, though Morgan and Holden said that the jokes were “terrible” but that they still loved the act.
Cowell compared him to a funny version of Jim Davidson.
Stint in The Inbetweeners as a bully
After his BGT stint, Charlie enrolled at the Sylvia Young Theatre School, and attended weekend classes.
He later appeared on the E4 comedy The Inbetweeners in the episode Work Experience, when he portrayed the character of Danny Moore.
Danny was a young school pupil and bully, who beat up Simon Cooper, played by Joe Thomas.
This then led him to appear in the E4 show School of Comedy , playing several characters. The show began airing on October 2 2009.
He also appeared in the third series of Harry & Paul on BBC Two in late 2010.
Cheeky chappy in Bad Education
You might also recognise Charlie from the BBC 3 series Bad Education, written by comedian and actor Jack Whitehall, who also stars in the series as the lead character.
In a blog post on the BBC’s blog, he penned a sweet post to bid farewell to his character.
“From the second I stepped on set to the second I wrapped I don’t ever remember not laughing.
“Whether I was laughing about the script or the gags or whether I was just laughing at a member of the cast or crew pratting about, I didn’t stop chuckling from start to finish (most of the time it was during a take)…
“I’ll miss Bad Education however I’ll always be as rude and immature as Mitchell so I don’t have to leave him behind!”
He also dropped a bombshell in the blog post, when he revealed: “It’s not all fun and games though… one day on series two I had to stare at a naked Jack Whitehall.”
Life as Robbie Roscoe in Hollyoaks
In April 2013, Charlie first appeared in Hollyoaks as Robbie Roscoe, a troublesome sixth form student.
Robbie was created to pave the way for the rest of the Roscoe family to be introduced.
It was announced that Robbie would have a crush on teacher Nancy. The crush begins when she is helping him prepare for his exams.
Hollyoaks wrote Robbie out by sending him to prison for assault, so that Charlie could film The Bad Education Movie with Jack Whitehall.
During the Hollyoaks Summer 2015 trailer, it was shown that Robbie and Holly would hook up.
Charlie spoke to Digital Spy, where he said: “Robbie and Holly sleeping together comes out of nowhere and it shocks both of them. I think it sparks something in Robbie and he realises that he has feelings for her, which is not good when Holly is going out with his brother! That will be an ongoing thing. I didn’t know it was going to happen until I read the scripts. At first I thought it was going to be a one-off thing and they’d be trying to hide it from Jason, but it’s not – Robbie starts to develop feelings for her.”
When Robbie’s departure was announced Wernham stated “This time, I felt that it was the right time for me to do other things – given my age, the amount of time I’d been in the show and where my character was at.” in an interview.
Welcome to Walford
Discussing his role in EastEnders, Charlie has expressed his excitement to join the cast and has said it has always been a childhood dream of his.
The star explained: “It was always a childhood dream of mine to be in EastEnders. It’s a show that’s constantly on TV in my household as my family are massive fans so it’s always been close to my heart. I can’t wait to get cracking and join an incredibly talented cast!”
EastEnders Executive Producer, Jon Sen is also happy for Charlie to join the team and said: “We’re very happy to be welcoming Charlie to Walford.
“His character Aaron joins the Monroe’s, our newest family set to move into the Square with connections to the Beale’s. In many ways he’s the opposite to his sister Dana and Harvey’s relationship with them both is likely to be tested. There’s more to Aaron than his bravado lets on and we look forward to Charlie’s arrival on screen later this year.”
His EastEnders character, Aaron Monroe, is described as a confident young man, who always gets his own way.
He is close to his father, having been raised by him alone but they fell out when he decided to head to London to take on a high profile city job in the finance sector.
His relationship remains strained with his sister Dana (Barbara Smith), who isn’t the biggest fan of her older brother.
Life behind the screen
Away from the TV screen, Charlie is loved up with his girlfriend Emma Louise Collis.
The pair actually got engaged on Valentine’s Day 2021, with Charlie taking to Instagram to share the happy news.
In an Instagram post the EastEnders newcomer wrote: “Happy Valentine’s Day to this absolute Treacle. I’m grateful for you everyday. I can’t wait to say ‘I do’ and create more memories.”
In June 2019, the pair celebrated their fifth anniversary as a couple, while holidaying in Rome, Italy.
