EastEnders viewers are furious with Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) after he asked his husband Callum Highway (Tony Clay) to quit his dream job as a police officer.
The Walford bad boy has struggling to come to terms with Callum’s occupation and made a big announcement during Friday’s edition of the BBC One soap.
He told Callum: “The thing is I love you.”
“But you don’t trust me,” replied Callum.
He added: “Ben I’m not just the things I’ve done in my past.”
“I know,” Ben said. “You’re the things that you’re going to do and you can do. Which is why there’s only one way to fix this properly for good. Cal, I need you to quit the police.”
Viewers were left devastated at Ben request and predict the couple will split in the near future.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Why are #EastEnders doing this to #Ballum? They’ve only been husbands for like three weeks. Ben married Callum knowing his career choices, so asking him to quit the police now is just weird and out of character?
Another added: “Great it’s the weekend so frustrating be thinking overtime on #Ballum this weekend Crikey #EastEnders you certainly don’t make it easy for us.”
A third person posted: “Do we really have to wait until Monday after that ending! The angst the mistrust.”
While a fourth social media user said: “Warnings signs for a toxic relationship on Ben’s behalf. Callum needs to get out now.”
“Callum needs to tell Ben where to go. He knew who he was marrying,” a fifth fan quipped.
“The cracks in Ben and Callum’s marriage are starting to show. I told you it wasn’t going to work didn’t I,” someone else wrote.
With Callum having a day off, Ben planned to meet up with him but when he arrived at the Prince Albert, he found Callum with his colleague Fitzy.
A clearly paranoid Ben began poking Callum for information, but he simply explained that Fitzy wanted to offload after a difficult shift.
As Ben and Kheerat (Jaz Deol) met up, Ben opened up about his troubles with his husband, explaining how he never sees Callum because of the hours he works, and can’t stand the idea of someone sneaking around behind his back.
