Emmerdale and Corrie stars unite for party as Adam Thomas opens new restaurant

Soap fans were in for a treat after a star-studded cast of Emmerdale and Coronation Street stars headed out to support Adam Thomas at the launch of his latest restaurant.

Former Emmerdale star Adam was joined by a host of his former ITV soap pals, as well as his friends from Coronation Street and even from his early stint on Waterloo Road.

It was something of an Emmerdale reunion as stars of the Yorkshire soap past and present came together to test out Adam’s restaurant The Spinn’s new summer residency at Box on the Docks at MediaCityUK – located on Salford Quays in Manchester.

Adam was joined by fellow ex-Emmerdaler Kelvin Fletcher (who played Andy Sugden) complete with his new bushy beard look, Isabel Hodgins who plays Kelvin’s on-screen sister Victoria Sugden and Danny Miller (who plays Aaron Dingle) out with his fiancee Steph Jones.

Among the Coronation Street crew who headed along were soap favourites Alan Halsall and Ruxandra Porojnicu, who play on-screen lovebirds Tyrone Dobbs and Alina Pop, enjoying the sunshine with Maureen Lipman (who plays Evelyn Plummer) and Alexandra Mardell (Emma Brooker).

Corrie’s Ellie Leach, who plays Faye Windass, was pictured with soap favourite Lucy Fallon, who played Bethany Platt, who were enjoying a girls’ night out with a group of friends at the party.

And the union of the big soaps left Emmerdale’s Chris Bisson – also a famous Corrie alumni – debating where exactly to sit!

Chris, who plays Emmerdale’s Jai Sharma, laughed: “You’ve got Corrie sitting on one side and Emmerdale on the other – I’m not sure which side to join!”

Meanwhile there was a Waterloo Road reunion for Adam with his former co-star Chelsee Healey, who now stars in Hollyoaks.

Chelsee was looking chic in a blue shirt and denim jeans as she headed to the event with her best friend, singer Michelle McKenna – and they got to have a good old chinwag with Adam’s twin brother, former Love Island star Scott Thomas.

The new “Spinn off” pop-up restaurant is spread out across the outdoor park area Box on the Docks at MediaCityUK, just across the quays from ITV’s studios where Corrie is filmed.

Adam and his old school pal Scott Graham are behind The Spinn restaurant concept, which first launched as a restaurant in 2019.

When lockdown came in, the pals diversified with takeaways from the restaurant – and found there was huge demand for their juicy burgers.

It will be their burger menu for sale at The Spinn pop-up – including their now famous “BURN-ham” burger.

Adam, 32, and Scott, 33, have been friends since their school days – and had talked about opening a restaurant together for years.

While Adam went on to a showbiz career, Scott launched his own successful sauce business Oh My Glaze.

But they still had those dreams of a restaurant – and a night out at a casino would lead to a bet on a roulette wheel, with the two men agreeing that if they won, they would finally launch the business.

Their number did come up that night – which they saw as a sign and the name of the restaurant is inspired by that winning “spin” of the roulette.

For the MediaCity launch night there was a roulette wheel for guests to enjoy – as a reminder of that moment.

Their new pop-up restaurant will be housed in a purpose built double-height glass-fronted shipping container at MediaCity so passers-by can see the chefs in action, whilst diners will be seated within 15 of Box on the Docks’ art-adorned greenhouses and sheds.

Adam is particularly excited about the location – at the hub of Manchester’s media and creative scene with BBC and ITV studios all around, with guests at the launch including BBC Breakfast’s Mike Bushell and Newsround’s Martin Dougan.

He told Manchester Evening News: “It’s a thriving place with the BBC and ITV here and while I’m flipping burgers I can even see Coronation Street just across the way, I’ll give them a little wave.

“It would be nice to see some familiar faces down here, I’d love to see them every now and again but it’s just nice to see the hustle and bustle down here.”

He added: “This is what our residency is all about – creating a fun vibe, soaking up the atmosphere while enjoying amazing burgers with a twist and drinks.”

The appeal of the pop-up was for the lads to widen the reach of “The Spinn” brand, with plans for a second permanent site to be announced soon.

The Spinn at Box on the Docks will run until August 8, initially opening Thursdays to Sundays before extending to seven days.
