Debbie Dingle actress Charley Webb has quit Emmerdale after nearly two decades on the show, it has been claimed.
Her departure comes after husband Matthew Wolfenden became involved in a race row controversy on the set of the soap opera back in September.
The 33-year-old had not been seen on-screen by viewers since the start of the year, when her character had an affair with Al.
An insider has revealed that the row “fuelled her decision to step back”.
They told The Sun: “Charley is closing the door on Emmerdale for good and won’t be going back.”
The insider shared that the actress had been considering a future away from the soap opera over the last few months, with the recent row strengthening her decision to leave the programme.
“Matthew being caught up in the row on set fuelled her decision to step away”, they added, explaining that “the door is open for her character, who is now living in Scotland, should she change her mind.”
“But for now she is looking to the future.”
An ITV spokesperson speaking to the newspaper confirmed that there are “no current plans for Debbie Dingle to return”.
Matthew, who plays David Metcalfe in the popular ITV soap, was meanwhile reportedly seen at the ITV studios last week.
The 41-year-old had not filmed scenes for Emmerdale after he became involved in a row with co-star Aaron Anthony over allegations he and Isabel Hodgins reportedly mimicked a mixed race actress.
Fans spotted Matthew leaving the set at the Yorkshire Television studios in Leeds.
However, it is not known if he was filming scenes as his character David or whether he was there for another reason.
Charley and Matthew married in 2018, and have had three children together. Their eldest, Buster, was born back in April 2010.
The Daily Star has approached Charley Webb’s representatives for comment.
