Emmerdale star Samantha Giles, who plays Bernice Blackstock, appeared on ITV’s Lorraine to chat about her forthcoming children’s book, practising wicca, and playing her character in the dales.
Chatting to Christine Lampard, who is currently filling in for Lorraine during half term, Samantha spoke about the wig she opted for when she returned to the soap earlier in the year.
Samantha cringed over the wig decision, which was brought on due to the coronavirus pandemic preventing hair stylists on set.
Appearing slightly embarrassed, Samantha was chatting to Christine about how the coronavirus impacted the Emmerdale set, when she said: “Bernice is a hairdresser, you know, she’s got to look quaffed and so on, so we went for the wig and of course that had its own set of disasters.”

She then continued: “When I saw some of the photos I thought ‘oh no’.”
Christine then chimed in, saying: “It needed its own name, it was a character of its own.”
The pair laughed, while Samantha blushed a little, looking flustered and uneasy.
Samantha’s character is a hairdresser Australia with daughter Dee Dee in November 2019, in order to help care for her ex-husband Charlie, who had been involved in a serious car accident.
Making a return amid the coronavirus pandemic, earlier on in the year Samantha spoke to Daily Star and other press, when she explained that she decided to wear a wig to play Bernice.

She said: “I’ve got very very thick, wiry, frizzy hair! I can’t do it myself. I just can’t do it!
“Obviously Bernice is a hairdresser so she is not going to be seen looking anything less than having her coiffed look, if you like.
“So, that has all been really hard!”
Back before the summer, in May and June when she returned to the soap with her wig in place, viewers of the soap flooded social media with hilarious comments on Samantha’s appearance.
One said: “Hope Dr Liam prescribes Bernice with a new wig.”
Another said: “I hope ITV are prepared to spend some money digitally removing Bernice’s awful wig from all future episodes.”
While a third penned: “What’s with Bernice and the terrible wig?”
And a fourth wrote: “Does anyone know why Bernice is wearing that stupid wig, in Emmerdale? It’s creeping further and further down her forehead.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV at 7pm, with an extra helping on Thursdays at 8pm.
