Gogglebox fans concerned as favourites Jenny and Lee are missing from new episode

Gogglebox viewers were baffled on Friday night when fan-favourites Jenny Newby and Lee Riley were missing from the latest instalment of the Channel 4 show.

As viewers tuned in to the commentary show which reflects on the best shows on telly this week, fans were introduced to a couple of new cast members including Simon and his sister Jane from North London.

The pair critiqued TV moments including scenes from Strictly Come Dancing, The Love Trap and Netflix show You, as many viewers shared their love for the dynamic duo online.

But many viewers couldn’t help but notice the fact that Jenny and Lee, who have been a part of the show since 2014, were missing from the show.

Concerned fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts online throughout the show, with many asking when the comedic duo would return to the show.

One user penned: “Where are Jenny and Lee this week?” as another noted how they “really missed” the pair.

A third chimed in with: “Will they be back?” as a third quipped: “What’s happened tonight … No Jenny and Lee?”

Luckily, there was a simple explanation for their absence from this week’s show after Jenny and Lee shared a celebratory birthday post from their joint account on Instagram.

Lee posted a loving picture alongside his husband Steve as they beamed out in the dunes while on holiday in Cyprus.

He captioned the sweet snap: “A big happy birthday Steve now lets celebrate the Cyprus way.”

And fans soon flooded the pair with similarly sentimental comments while the happy couple soaked up the sun overseas.

Fellow Gogglebox star Ellie Warner commented on the post, writing: “Happy birthday Steve,” with a slew of celebratory emojis.

It comes after Paige Deville announced she was taking a step back from social media due to constant death threats after she left the show.

The 25-year-old announced her exit from the show last month siting at the time “long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions and zero aftercare support.”

But since her departure, it has been reported that there was an argument between her mum and co-star Sally Hayward who has since been blamed for her shocking exit.

In a recent interview with BirminghamLive, Paige confessed: “I received a lot of positive messages when I left the show from people online, but I also received a lot of hate.

“Really nasty stuff. One person said, ‘Just kill yourself’. I have lots of hateful messages like that.”

Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4
