A royal author has claimed on Good Morning Britain that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will “never cut themselves off” from the royal family entirely.
Robert Lacey appeared on the ITV show to speak about his new book, and discussed the reasons why Harry and Meghan would never be able to stop being part of the royals, despite the couple stepping away from their royal duties last year.
Speaking to hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray, Robert explained: ”The point is they will never cease to be royal.”
“We will never cease to think of Harry as Diana’s son, and William’s brother.”
He went on to say that it was in the best interests of the couple to stay part of the family, adding: “At the end of the day, that’s the interest they hold for the rest of the world and I think that actually is a reason for hope in the future.
“They are never going to want to cut themselves off because frankly if they do cut themselves off, one wonders whether Netflix would want to renew their contract.”
Robert also believes that the unveiling of the Diana statue will be a pivotal point in mending the relationship between Harry and William.
In his book, he claims that the bad blood between the brothers has been brewing for long before Harry stepped back to lead a private life.
The author alleges instead that William and Harry had a bitter row that led to the family divide.
The book also refutes rumours of a family negotiation after Prince Phillip’s funeral saying: ”Apparently nothing came of it once they got inside, certainly the report that they had a big family sit-down was sadly denied by both sides.”
Robert added: “You just showed Gayle King, their friend, talking on television. I think the feeling was when it came to the Oprah interview, as ghastly as it was with all these family revelations being aired, that was it.

“The feeling was you can’t have a serious family negotiation if it’s going to be talked about on American television the day afterwards. This would make things a problem.”
Robert went on to defend the public’s interest in the royal family saying that they exist to show us “how to live”.
He said: “The job of the monarchy [is a representative family], the monarchy no longer exists to rule the country, the monarchy – back in the time of Queen Victoria, said ‘our new job is to be a representative family, to represent Britain to the world and to ourselves’.
“To show us how to live in a way, so it is legitimate to talk about them,” he added.
