Holly and Phil blown away by boy, 11, who hasn't slept indoors for 465 days

Speaking to This Morning’s Phil and Holly, Max Woosey, 11, said he wanted to encourage other children to sleep in wacky places to help raise money for Action for Children.

Max’s most recent night was spent next to the lion enclosure at ZSL London Zoo.

When speaking to Phil and Holly, lions paraded past Max whilst he was still in his sleeping bag.

The This Morning hosts were amazed and concerned. Holly even shouted, “Oh my God, he’s right behind you!”

Joking, Holly added, “Has he has his breakfast yet?” as he eyed up Max on the other side of the glass.

Max started sleeping outside in his garden over a year ago after his neighbour died of cancer.

After receiving a tent from his neighbour, Max hasn’t slept inside for over a year.

Raising funds for North Devon Hospice, Max has now reached £600,000 including Gift Aid.

Tim O’Neill, the managing director of children’s services at Action for Children said, “Having boycotted his own bed for over a year now, Max is the ultimate adventurer.”

When Phil asked why Max chose London Zoo he said “After the campout, I thought it would be quite nice to help some more children.”

However, it wasn’t an easy night for Max. Not only did the lions and gibbons keep him awake but his tent was uprooted in the night: “We heard the lions and the gibbons and the tent flipped over because the pegs weren’t in properly, and the wind just picked up.”

The pair joked that Max could start renting out his bedroom on Airbnb.

His parents came up with the idea and Max thought it was brilliant and said, “I’m not going to use it any time soon so, why not?”

The ‘Boycott your Bed’ event is on July 9th. The charity team is challenging kids to raise money by spending the night in the most unusual place they can think of.

Magician Dynamo will be making a special virtual appearance as well as Strictly Dancers Giovanni Pernice and Luba Mushtuk, and DJ Charlotte de Carle.

The Boycott your Bed website encourages children to find fun, but safe spots to lay their heads for the night: “Where will you sleep to challenge yourself? Will you camp out under the stars or under the stairs? Bunk down in the bathroom or the back garden? Wherever you choose to lay your head, you’ll be helping vulnerable children and families in desperate need.”
