Gloria Henry, the iconic TV mum of Dennis the Menace has died just one day after her birthday.
Her daughter, Erin, confirmed her passing to the Hollywood Reporter, stating she had died in her home in Los Angeles.
Gloria’s cause of death was unconfirmed.
She had starred in movies alongside Gene Autry, Lucille Ball and George Raft before getting the role as Alice Mitchell, Dennis the Menace’s mother.
She played the role for four seasons beginning in October 1959 and became known as the archetypal mother.
“Many of the fans say, ‘Oh, I always wished you were my mom’ and ‘My mom was jealous of you, because I wanted you for a mom,'” she said in a 2011 interview with New Jersey.com.
“Which is pretty funny, because I don’t think my own children felt that way.”
She was born in New Orleans on April 2, 1923 as Gloria Eileen McEniry.
Gloria made her film debut in 1947 in Sport of Kings before appearing in a string of ‘B’ movies until her breakthrough role in Dennis the Menace.
She later starred in 1949’s Miss Grant Takes Richmond with Lucille Ball and Rancho Notorious in 1952 with Marlene Dietrich.
Other movie roles included The Strawberry Roan (1948), Triple Threat (1948), Racing Luck (1948), Riders in the Sky (1949), and Kill the Umpire (1950).
Her last movie role was in Her Minor Thing in 2005, a comedy directed by Walter Matthau’s son, Charles Matthau.
