Idris Elba backs Meghan and Harry's Oprah chat as their 'voices were taken away'

Luther star Idris Elba has offered his support to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, following the wave of criticism they received for their revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey in America last month.

The actor is a good friend of the couple, having been a guest at their fairytale royal wedding at Windsor Castle in 2018, and was even the DJ at their private reception.

Idris has now shared his thoughts following the interview, and insisted it was important for everyone to be able to speak their truth, regardless of being part of the royal family.

“I will say that everyone has to have their opportunity to speak up about what they feel, you know,” he shared.

Harry and Meghan rocked the world when they made a series of massive claims in an interview with Oprah Winfrey

“You cannot take someone’s voice away,” Idris told US publication Entertainment Tonight.

“That’s all we have to communicate.”

Meghan, 39, made shocking claims of racism within the royal family when she said someone had questioned what the colour of her son Archie’s skin would be.

The pregnant duchess also opened up about her struggles with mental health while she was a senior royal and claimed she hadn’t received any help from the “Firm” despite asking for it when she started to experience suicidal thoughts.

Idris Elba is now a famous Hollywood actor for his impressive film and TV roles

48-year-old Idris attended the couple’s wedding with his wife Sabrina Dhowre, and was seen looking very dapper as he walked down the path Windsor towards a church already star-studded.

During the bombshell-laden interview, Harry and former Hollywood actress Meghan revealed they had a private wedding ceremony a couple of days before the big filmed spectacle the world watched.

Speaking from their chicken coop with Oprah, Meghan beamed as she shared her secret that they’d wanted to have a private moment just them “in their backyard”.

Meghan explained the Archbishop of Canterbury was there, prompting many to wonder if she’d actually meant they’d had a legal ceremony.

“We were married just the two of us in our backyard with the Archbishop of Canterbury,” she told Oprah at the time.

It has since been explained that the royal pair simply wanted a chance to read their personal vows to each other and there were no legal documents at the time.

The Archbishop Justin Welby has also broken his silence and confirmed that Harry and Meghan were legally married on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St George’s Chapel where he signed their certificate.
