I'm A Celeb's Richard Madeley won't mind cleaning dunny after ‘gloryhole’ experience

Richard Madeley reportedly won’t mind cleaning the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! dunny after having previous experience with a similar set-up.

The presenter is apparently happy to muck in with chores and help clean out the I’m A Celeb outside loo because he used to live at his grandparents’, who had an outside toilet as well – which was dubbed the “gloryhole”.

Richard, 65, said cleaning the toilet at his relations’ remote farm was one of his childhood tasks.

In an interview with The Sun, Richard recalled: “We used to spend a lot of time up there in holiday times and stuff like that. They didn’t get full electricity until the late Sixties.

“So they had a dunny. It was known in the family as the gloryhole. It was basically a wooden shack in the orchards behind the farmhouse.

“You went in and there was a wooden seat with a hole in it, worn smooth by my grandmother’s cheeks. And, yeah, you sat on that and you did your business.”

The Good Morning Britain star also revealed that he thinks his I’m A Celeb experience will be like “one big party” and full of silly forfeit games.

He continued: “I don’t know if we should take it too seriously. It’s meant to be fun. It’s meant to be entertaining. It’s just a television show, and that’s how I see it. It’s only telly.”

This comes after former I’m A Celeb contestant Vernon Kay stated that Richard may ruffle some campmates’ feathers in camp.

GMB welcomed Vernon to the programme on Friday to chat about his I’m A Celeb stint and his thoughts on Richard heading into the Welsh Castle.

Vernon stated: “I can’t wait to see Richard, I’ll be honest with you, I think he’s going to talk everyone to death. I think he may frustrate a few people but he’s extremely intelligent and he’s a great listener.

“And that’s what you need in there because you get really tired and you open up and get really emotional because you miss your friends and family.”

Host Ben Shephard then chimed in to say: “The other thing is he is a great interviewer. I often think when I watch, you know, they’ve had some amazing characters like Caitlyn Jenner who you just want to sit down and interview them, it would be such a joy.”

The new series kicks off on November 21 on ITV at 9pm.
