Dr Hilary Jones has opened up on the support his Good Morning Britain co-star Kate Garraway is getting behind the scenes amid her husband’s ongoing health battle.
Kate’s husband Derek Draper was hospitalised with the deadly virus in March of last year and ever since the nation has been hoping and praying for the 53-year-old broadcast journalist and former politician Derek to pull through.
Dr Hilary, 67, who is a general practitioner, recalled how Kate and her family are doing as he revealed the support they have been getting.
Derek has since been cleared of Covid-19, but has left extensive damage to his organs and he remains in a form of coma called a PDOC (Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness), which means that he is generally unresponsive.

Dr Hilary revealed that he has been by Kate’s side as she battles through Derek’s life-changing condition, raising their two children by herself and still reporting on the news on TV.
The doctor said he has been there to advice Kate and her children, Darcey, 14, and William, 11.
Speaking to The Express, the star said he’s glad he’s been there to support his co-star and friend behind the scenes.
Dr Hilary told the publication: “We adhere to very strict guidelines at ITV studios, social distancing, sanitising, mask-wearing, that’s very important.

“Of course, Kate Garraway’s husband has been very poorly, so I’ve been in contact with her quite a bit, and everybody feels very much for her and her family.”
Back in October, Derek shocked hospital staff after he spoke for the first time.
It comes after viewers nearly choked on their Cornflakes last Wednesday as Kate clashed with Dominic Raab over the government’s mandatory hotel quarantine policy.

Kate said: “It’s all very well to have to have the idea but it’s about putting something in place to see it through isn’t it?”
Mr Raab replied: “Of course enforcement is difficult in a country where we don’t have the control over the law enforcement authorities.”
Kate stepped in and said: “It’s here what I’m talking about where we do have control.”
The politician fired back: “Can you let me answer the question?”
“Yes but you’re saying things I haven’t said so I’ve got to clarify otherwise you’re not going to have a chance to answer the question if yo haven’t understood it,” Kate responded.
Mr Raab added: “‘Why don’t you pause and let me explain it. People get fed up with the media not allowing us to give honest answers.”
