Outspoken Katie Hopkins will no doubt be eating her words today as Big Brother Australia confirmed she is no longer part of the show.
The outspoken mum-of-three was apparently joking when she explained in an Instagram post that she’d deliberately set out to break mask-wearing restrictions during a trip to Australia – which caused mass outrage.
Her video – that has now been deleted – also saw the former TV star brand lockdown measures as “bull***” in Sydney and Melbourne before telling everyone they were “living through the greatest hoax in human history”.
As a result of bragging about her quarantine actions, Katie has now lost her role on the reality TV programme.
A statement was issued on Sunday afternoon by The Seven Network and Endemol Shine Australia.
It read: “Seven Network and Endemol Shine Australia confirm that Katie Hopkins is not part of Big Brother VIP. Seven and Endemol Shine strongly condemn her irresponsible and reckless comments in hotel quarantine.”
The far-right political commentator caused fury after she bragged online about defying Australian mask-wearing rules during hotel quarantine.
Katie explained that she’d been told to hunker down in her hotel, and when accepting food, she’d been instructed to wait 30 seconds after it was delivered and wear a mask when opening the door.
Instead, the former Apprentice star boasted to her followers that she’d hatched a better plan which was to wait in the bathroom and sprint to the door stark naked to scare staff.
She said: “I’ve been told when they bring three meals a day to the door… I have to wait 30 seconds before opening the door.
“And then I can open the door but only with a face mask.”
However, she’d been “lying in wait” for the door to chime in a bid to “frighten the s**t out of them [the workers] and do it naked with no face mask”.
According to the Mirror, Katie has since been “reported to police” for not wearing a face covering.
An investigation has now been launched by Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force to determine if Katie did actually defy restrictions – as she had declared in the clip.
Karen Andrews, who is the Minister for Home Affairs, said: “It is despicable that anyone would behave in such a way that puts our health officials and community at risk.
“I have directed Australian Border Force to immediately consider the facts of this matter and urgently review whether this individual is complying with the requirements of her visa.”
After the snippet landed on Katie’s feed, much controversy was sparked with many Australians as well as ex-pats calling for her to be deported back to the UK.
A Change.org petition was also raised for her removal which has received 22,000 signatures in less than 24 hours.
A Home Affairs spokeswoman has since confirmed to news.com.au that Katie did not take the place of any Australians wanting to return home.
She said: “These travel exemptions were approved based on support by the NSW Government as they met the critical skills category for inwards travel.
“These travellers did not take the place of returning Australians as their travel was above the hotel quarantine caps.”
