INXS manager Chris Murphy has died at the age of 66.
The band’s longtime manager has died after a cancer battle.
The Daily Telegraph reported that Chris was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer before Christmas.
A statement from Murphy’s management company, Murphy Petrol Group, confirmed the news of his passing.
It read: “It is with great sadness that Caroline Murphy and family confirm that Christopher (CM) Mark Murphy, chairman of Murphy Petrol Group has today passed away peacefully at his beloved Ballina property ‘Sugar Beach Ranch’ surrounded by his family.”
The statement continued: “CM celebrated an illustrious career over 40 years and made an incredible impact on the global music and entertainment industry. Best known for taking his ‘band of brothers’ INXS to worldwide stardom, CM Murphy influenced the lives of many around the globe with his endless passion and drive. He will be greatly missed.”
The members of Aussie rockband INXS also shared a statement paying tribute to their longtime manager.
They shared: “It is with great sadness that the remaining members of INXS mourn the passing of our brother, Chris Murphy. Without Chris’s vision, passion and hard work, the INXS story would be totally different. Chris’s star burned very bright and we celebrate a life well lived and send all our love to his family.”
Murphy played an integral role in helping the band achieve international success.
The Need You Tonight singers sold more than 70 million albums worldwide and became one of Australia’s most successful music acts of all time.
The band was struck by tragedy in 1997, when the group’s frontman Michael Hutchence died.
Hutchence, who famously dated Paula Yates, was found dead in his hotel room in Sydney.

The New South Wales coroner determined he had died by suicide.
The band carried on performing after Hutchence’s tragic death.
Tributes have been pouring in for Chris, who is survived by his wife Caroline and five children.
One Twitter user said: “Terribly shocking and sad. Thinking of all his family and friends and the impact Chris Murphy had on Australian music.”
While another added: “Sad to hear that the manager of INXS Chris Murphy has passed away. Thank you for all that you did for the band, he was a great manager, his vision and his passion for the band won’t be forgotten. Fans appreciate it Love to his family and members. Take care of Michael. @INXS”
