Lorraine Kelly has broken her silence on Piers Morgan’s departure from ITV.
Speaking on The One Show after ITV’s announcement, Lorraine seemed to confirm that Piers Morgan’s departure was immediate as she spoke to Rylan Clark-Neal and Alex Jones.
Piers’ exit from GMB has been confirmed after he sparked backlash with controversial comments about Meghan Markle following her appearance on Oprah.
She also revealed that Piers had sent her a message before her BBC appearance to let her know his surprising news.
Rylan kicked off the chat as he asked: “Lorraine, so lovely to have you on the show, we’re really looking forward to talking about your documentary when you come up in just a bit.

“But we can’t not discuss the news which has just broken in the last half hour, that one of your ITV Daytime colleagues, Piers Morgan, he’s decided to step away from GMB.”
He asked: “Am I right in saying this was the first you heard of it as well?”
Lorraine said: “To be honest, he did actually email me about 20 minutes ago, so that was the first that I’d heard of it.”

The TV star continued that Piers said he won’t be on the show anymore, as she explained he told her “No, I’m gone”.
She said: “No real details, just saying – I thought I was going to see him because I was actually going to go on GMB to talk about the documentary and he said: ‘No, I’m gone.’ He just said he’s away.
“It’s certainly going to be quieter.”

Lorraine continued: “So it looks like he has, I don’t know any more details than that. It’s certainly going to be quieter!
“But you know what, we all wish him well, we all wish him the best, but yes, it will be calmer.”
Piers has presented GMB since 2015, with former BBC news presenter Susanna Reid as his co-host.
Lorraine has had plenty of time to talk to Piers over the years, as Piers and Susanna cross over to the Lorraine studio every day to find out what she is going to be showing on her self-titled programme at 9am.
Piers and GMB are also set to be investigated by Ofcom after the watchdog confirmed they had received 41,000 complaints on Monday’s show.
GMB and Lorraine continues tomorrow at 6am and 9am on ITV.
