Love Island’s casting team have reportedly signed boxing champion Nigel Benn’s son Harley for their 2021 series.
The 24-year-old, who has had an “inconsistent relationship” with his sportsman father over the years, is believed to have conducted “video meetings” with “excited” ITV producers.
Even though the pair have endured a rocky relationship, this hadn’t prevented Harley from wanting to follow in his dad’s footsteps as a professional boxer.
The news that Harley has allegedly “signed” up for the mach-making programme comes after it was claimed the show would be returning to sunny Majorca for the 2021 series.
It has been reported that plans have been put in place already for cast members to travel to Spain in May, under strict quarantine guidelines, until the reality favourite kicks off.
An insider claimed to The Sun: “Harley’s already got a huge following and gets loads of attention from the girls.
“He’s had video meetings with the casting team and everyone is very excited at the prospect of having him on the show.”
In spite of the “exciting” claims about having Harley on-board, a Love Island representative has slammed claims that anybody had been “signed” up at this stage.
The spokesperson told the MailOnline: “No decisions have been made on the line up for this year’s Love Island.”
Daily Star has contacted ITV representatives and Harley for comment.
Back in 2016, Harley opened up in an interview with the Daily Mail, explaining that his relationship with his father Nigel hadn’t got off to the best start.
In September of 1996, Nigel’s wife Caroline gave birth to twins, with Harley being welcomed into the world by his mother Lisa Andrews just four days before.
Nigel had walked away from the relationship with Lisa and later requested for a paternity test which proved he was Harley’s father.
Speaking with the publication, Harley explained: “My dad and I have had an inconsistent relationship.
“There have been times in the past when I needed a dad, but I’m a grown man now. I had my mum and she has always been there for me.”
After going through a rough patch, it seems they have now put their differences aside and have a much better family connection, with Nigel often featuring on Harley’s Instagram feed.
