The Masked Singer was back on TV screens last night, with the judging panel taking more guesses as to who the celebrities were behind the masks.
One of the masked characters that particularly caused a stir was Blob.
The Masked Singer viewers hit out at the panel, comprising of Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall, as they failed to guess Blob’s “obvious” identity.
Blob took on Harlequin, Bush Baby, Viking and Granfather Clock.
Grandfather Clock was eventually revealed to be Glen Hoddle after he was unmasked, following losing the sing-off to Viking..
Blob performed a cover of Cameo’s Word Up, and he impressed the audience enough to be given the studio vote, seeing him go through to next week’s show.
Comedian Mo Gilligan, who is new to the panel after standing in for Ken Jeong, lavished praise on Blob, saying his voice reminded him of Chic’s Nile Rodgers.
Once more, Davina, 53, guessed that Blob was funnyman Greg Davies due to his height and clue about him being a teacher.
Rita, 30, said she was “exhausted” trying to work out who was the man or woman behind the mask, but ended up throwing Frank Skinner’s name into the mix, after hearing how Blob had worked with big names in the music industry.
Frank previously teamed up with David Baddiel and The Lightning Seeds for footballing anthem Three Lions.
Jonathan, 60, hazarded a guess that it was an older star, pondering as to whether it was Stephen Fry.
But none of the judging panel took a guess that it was comedian Lenny Henry, prompting viewers to fume online.
One social networker said: “”Are they panel deaf!?? Blob is Lenny Henry,” and in agreement, another reacted: “The Blob has to be LennyHenry. Otherwise it is someone who sounds exactly like him. Remember he was a head teacher in the tv show ‘Hope and Glory’.
While another continued: “Watching #MaskedSingerUK and baffled by why anyone needs the clues for Blob, biggest clue is when he opens his mouth and it’s clearly Lenny Henry.”
