BBC Breakfast was hit with a technical blunder during Saturday morning’s programme as a videotape appeared to get stuck, while presenters Naga Munchetty and Jon Kay discussed the NHS covid app.
It happened during a segment where the presenters were explaining how people who have been double jabbed may not have to self-isolate if they are pinged on the NHS track and trace app.
Ministers have already said from August 16 people who have been double jabbed won’t have to self-isolate, but there are talks that this date may be brought forward for NHS workers.
While presenter Jon, 51, discussed the app, various videos of people using the app came up on screen, however, the VT then became stuck on one image of the app in use and the sound also appeared to cut out.
Always the professional, Naga then stepped in and said: “Okay, apologies there, we seem to be having some technical problems here on BBC Breakfast.”
John then suggested they just focus on the image of the app just to drum the message home to viewers.
Naga then revealed that their director Jason was furiously “banging hopelessly at the vision mixing desk” as he tried to rectify the mishap.
She also expressed what a shame it was that it happened just four minutes into the programme.
But the director seemed to get it sorted quickly as the two hosts were then able to move to an “emergency” videotape.
It was revealed this week in the BBC’s annual report of salaries that Naga, 46, has been given a 30 per cent pay rise at the BBC.
The popular presenter, who also has a BBC Radio 5 Live programme, has taken a huge pay bump from the £195,000 – £199,999 bracket up to £255,000 – £259,999.
Naga’s hefty pay rise is reportedly due to her new 5 Live gig, which she landed in January 2021.
