Naga Munchetty wanted to segregate herself from co-star Charlie Stayt after a slip of the tongue left him red faced on Thursday’s BBC Breakfast programme.
The 59-year-old broadcaster had accidentally explained to Dr Chris Smith and Professor Linda Bauld that they were only one of the show’s favourite on-air guests.
This didn’t sit well with virologist Chris, 46, who called out Charlie and questioned his mistake.
Chris awkwardly chirped back: “We’re only one of your favourite duos?”
Before Charlie could answer, Naga turned to her co-star adding: “You’re on your own here.”
The two experts had appeared on the programme to discuss the coronavirus pandemic after cases, hospital admissions and deaths had started to spike again.
Once the conversation had concluded, Charlie wanted to clear the air to ensure there wasn’t any bad blood between them all.
The newsreader said: “There’s a poll that’s just happened and you’re at the top of our list now.
“There’s some data that’s just popped up.”
“Happy now?” the host asked.
Meanwhile, just yesterday fans flooded Naga with heaps of support after she announced a new and exciting role away from the BBC Breakfast.
The presenter usually features on the flagship programme Thursday to Saturday and also fronts her on Radio 5 Live show too.
However, she’s now joined a new team of famous broadcasters to present the latest editions of the BBC Newscast – a daily news podcast on BBC Sounds.
Naga will follow in the same line as BBC presenters Victoria Derbyshire, Laura Kuenssberg and Chris Mason.
Sharing to news online, Naga retweeted the exciting announcement from the BBC Sounds account.
It read: “Introducing your #BBCNewscast special guest presenter line up for the next six days:
“Monday: @TVNaga01, Tuesday: @VicDerbyshire, Wednesday: @ChrisMasonBBC, Thursday: @BBCLauraK and @ChrisMasonBBC, Friday: @VicDerbyshire, Monday: @TVNaga01”
Delighted fans beamed praise within the comments section, with one writing: “Great line up.”
A second chimed: “More Naga please.”
While a third exclaimed: “Brilliant line up”.
