Peter Kay fans overjoyed as he poses for rare photo following his four-year hiatus

Peter Kay has delighted his fans after he appeared in a rare photo at comedians Danny Baker and Bob Harris’ Backstage Pass tour at The Lowry Theatre in Salford on Sunday.

The 48-year-old comedian appeared in high spirit as he beamed from ear to ear in between his pals for the snap.

Bob took to Instagram to share the sweet pic, captioning it: “Lads. Pre-show.”

Fans immediately spotted Peter and took to the comments to voice their joy as seeing the funnyman again.

“Great to see Peter Kay looking so well,” commented one person.

Another chimed in to say: “Wonderful to see Peter!”

“Lovely to see you Bob and Danny but Peter, I have a tear in my eye, it is beyond wonderful to see you!!!” echoed a third.

Peter has been out of the spotlight in recent years after cancelling his last 14-month stand up tour in December 2017, citing “unforeseen family circumstances”.

However, the fan favourite made a return to the stage in August for two special charity events to raise money for Laura Nuttall, 20, who has an aggressive type of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme.

Coming on stage Peter said: “I’ve never in my life had a standing ovation when I came on,” before joking: “I’m going to go away for four more years.”

He also released a special audio-only episode of his comedy Car Share with co-star Sian Gibson in April last year in an attempt to “cheer people in some way”.

He recently revealed that he is also working on a third book after being inspired while recording the audiobook for his bestselling autobiography The Sound Of Laughter – 15 years after it was published.

Peter said: “Within the first few chapters of recording, I was inspired to start to write a third book.

“I had the idea about 10 years ago. All about working in TV. From when I started doing bit parts in Coronation Street right up to Car Share.

“It’s been a real joy recalling the memories. There’s over 20 years of stories about filming series like Phoenix Nights and Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere.

“Appearing on chat shows like Parkinson, at the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and sharing letters from Ronnie Barker. We wrote to each other for years as pen pals until he passed away.”

He added: “I’m very proud of it. I’ll no doubt be recording that book too before you know it. I just hope people enjoy it as much as this first one.”

Peter’s first autobiography still holds the record for the biggest selling British hardback autobiography of all time, selling more than two million copies worldwide.
