Phillip Schofield had Holly Willoughby close to tears after recalling the emotional reunion he had with his mum after a year apart.
ITV legend Philip, 59, opened up about the heartwarming reunion he had with his mum Pat whilst hosting This Morning on Monday.
He began the show by telling his co-host Holly, 40, that he’d finally been able to see Pat after so long apart due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Phil explained that he met up with his beloved mum over the weekend to celebrate her 85th birthday and that when he finally got to hug her, he was overwhelmed with emotion.
He excitedly turned to Holly and declared: “I saw my mum!”
Holly then replied, gushing: “That alone made my heart sink”.
Phil continued: “For the first time in a year, it was so lovely, I went to meet her at the station and she staggered through with her bags and the lady let me go through the barrier and I went over and gave her a massive hug and as we went back through the lady [Train worker] said “you’ve just made me really emotional!’”.
Holly’s voice was then shaking with emotion as she commented: “I am not surprised”.
Phil went on: “It was really sweet, it was her 85th birthday this weekend so we had a party for her.”
He then announced she was tuning in to their show live, and he said: “Happy birthday, mum!”
This comes after Phil’s dear mum travelled all the way up from Cornwall to meet her son, with Phil announcing the lovely occasion on social media.
Taking to Instagram on Friday (18 June), Philip shared a lovely reunion selfie and was overjoyed to be back in her company, penning the caption: “Off to pick up my mum from the station!! First time I’ve seen her in a year.”
Phil then discussed the moment he spotted his mum at the station, who had been carrying a number of bags.
Phil playfully quipped: “Her majesty has arrived,” before signing off with two happy-faced emojis.

Earlier this year, Phillip told viewers that his mother had been one of the first people to be fully vaccinated – with two jabs – in the UK.
Discussing his mum’s vaccination on ITV at the time, Phil said: “Mum was very lucky actually, she’s not a billionaire, she’s just down in Cornwall.
“She just happened to be on the list and they called her back, I think maybe towards the end of the period they might have some left over or whatever, and she got her second vaccine.”
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
