Phillip Schofield reveals 'contingency plans' for Dancing on Ice 2022 after 'tough' year

Phillip Schofield has revealed there are ‘contingency plans’ ready for this year’s series of Dancing on Ice.

The This Morning presenter admitted last year was “tough” for the popular ITV ice skating series – after it was forced off air for a time amid Covid issues and injuries.

Dancing on Ice will return to ITV next month with Phillip and Holly Willoughby returning as hosts – as well as an exciting new panel of judges.

Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse is joining the show alongside Ashley Banjo, Jayne Torvill, and Christopher Dean.

They’ll be casting an eye over the routines of 11 new celebrities and their ice dancing partners.

The celebrity line-up includes Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor, Love Island’s Liberty Poole and Happy Mondays star Bez.

59-year-old Phillip says there are a number of plans in place for this year’s series as the show can be “incredibly dangerous”.

He said: “You never want to see anybody hurt but we have had people hurt.

“I think it is incredibly dangerous. Ice skates are very sharp and so we have had nasty cuts, we have had big falls. And a fall is always great fun so long as nobody hurts themselves. That’s the bottom line.

“We have contingency plans for everything, whether you cut to us, whether you go to a break, whether we just all go home.

“When you have a year like we had last year – and we have been very honest about it, last year was really tough. We had injuries, we had Covid.

“The one thing when you start a series like this all those years ago, is the fact that actually you are going to have to come off. We will have to come off and recover because you can’t do the show. That’s a shocker.”

This year’s series of Dancing on Ice was won by Capital FM DJ Sonny Jay with his professional partner Angela Egan.

He saw off competition from former Corrie star Faye Brookes, who finished second, and won the public vote during the final In March.

The 2022 line-up confirmation came earlier this year after ITV announced that John Barrowman will no longer feature on Dancing On Ice.
