Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hire Fargo producer to create ‘inspirational’ movies

In a bid to complete their Archewell productions’ team, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have recently hired the producer of the award-winning black comedy crime drama, Fargo, as their Head of Scripted TV.

After reportedly sealing a multi-million dollar deal with streaming platform Netflix, Archewell Productions has been on a hiring spree.

As a result, the Sussexes have taken Nishika Kumble on board with their project to oversee their scripted TV programmes with the streaming service.

Nishika has an impressive CV which includes working as VP of development and production at filmmaker and actress Rashida Jones’ Le Train Train Productions, as well as the co-executive of the special show series, Centerpiece featuring Maya Rudolph as a guest.

Finding the right addition to their production company has been a year-long process in which the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex replaced Catherine St-Laurent with their spokesman, James Holt, as their executive director.

Moreover, following Hazza and Meg’s bombshell two-hour interview with Oprah Winfrey last January, the formal royal pair announced they were hiring producer Ben Browning to head up their film and television ambitions in the US.

Mr Browning has worked on features such as Room and most recently, the Oscar-nominated film, Promising Young Woman.

After taking on the role of head of content for Archewell Productions and Archewell Audio, Mr Browning told Forbes: “From the moment they shared their vision for Archewell as a global production company that will spotlight diverse voices and share uplifting stories, I knew I wanted to help with this unique opportunity.”

Now that Prince Harry and Meghan’s deal with Netflix – estimated to be worth $150million – has been announced, Archewell productions will see its latest addition, Nishika, work closely with the streaming platform in order to “create and develop new scripted fare from diverse voices that informs, elevates and inspires”.

Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the producer will report to former Mr Browning, while joining the rapidly growing company which includes Chanel Pysnik as head of unscripted and Rebecca Sananes as head of audio.

The Duke and the Duchess founded Archewell in September 2020, with the intent of making documentaries, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” the couple wrote in an official statement.

They added: “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.”

Despite affirming that she will not make a come-back to acting, the former Suits actress will reportedly both “create and produce” a series, which focuses on a “12-year-old heroine who finds inspiration in influential women from history”.

Meghan explained in a statement: “Like many girls her age, our heroine (Pearl) is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges.”
