Queen drummer Roger Taylor brands Sex Pistols rocker Sid Vicious 'a thicko'

Queen star Roger Taylor has branded Sex Pistols rocker Sid Vicious “a thicko”.

The drummer, 71, said his band all got on well with the rest of the Sex Pistols.

But he added: “Apart from Sid. He was a thicko.”

Sid’s outrageous exploits are to be brought back to life in a six-part TV drama about the rise and fall of the Sex Pistols by Trainspotting director Danny Boyle.

Taylor also said he hated the punk trend of spitting at concerts.

Talking to next month’s Classic Rock magazine, he added: “That was pathetic.”

The filming of the new TV drama, called Pistol, is due to start next month.

It stars Louis Partridge as Sid, who died in 1979 aged 21 of a heroin overdose.

Discussing the new series, Boyle said: “Imagine breaking into the world of The Crown and Downton Abbey with your mates and screaming your songs and your fury at all they represent.

“It is the detonation point for British street culture where ordinary young people had the stage and vented their fury and their fashion, and everyone had to watch and listen and everyone feared them or followed them.”

Steve Jones’s memoir, Lonely Boy: Tales From A Sex Pistol, released in 2016, has provided the inspiration for the series.

Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is set to play punk icon Jordan, while young British actor Toby Wallace will portray Steve Jones.

Up-and-coming actor Anson Boon will play Johnny Rotten, and the role of Pretenders star Chrissie Hynde – who had a brief affair with Steve Jones – has been given to Sydney Chandler.
