Jess Conrad may be celebrating his 85th birthday today but the 60s heartthrob is adamant he is the best looking pensioner in the country.
The singer and film star insists despite his age he still able to pass for being decades younger than his friends and challenges anyone who thinks different to show him proof.
Jess told Daily Star: “If anyone thinks he is better looking than me then they can send me photographic evidence.
“But perhaps nobody would as nobody does look like me at my age.”
Joking he still thinks readers will fall for his good looks, he laughed: “Will they still fall for me? Maybe yes because they are too old to stand up….
“I love a mirror. I love mirrors as they don’t lie.”

Despite his good humour, Jess admits both his and close friend James Bond legend Roger Moore often felt their infamous good looks hindered them away from the camera.
Jess, who was the original lead in West End classic Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, said: “Roger was my neighbour and he liked to have a drink at night.
“We were good friends and we had conversations about how awful it is to be good looking people.

“I know it sounds crazy but it’s almost like being hindered. It has so many downsides. We used to talk about it.
“For example when you meet a woman you have to be over polite to them, almost flirt with them as otherwise they will think you are big headed [for not giving them attention].
“Or when you don’t follow through and they get upset because you don’t follow through with the actual act or a date and stuff.”
The star continued: “Men obviously hate you, [they] obviously hate you on sight.
“We both had all of that going on as we were similar.
“Of course when you walk into a bar they all think oh here comes the big head, here he comes.”
Explaining how he used humour to counteract the jealousy he faced, Jess said: “So when I would walk into a bar – I always do throughout my life – I walk in and I say ‘hi fellas, the poser is here’ as a kind of joke, but it takes the wind out of their sails.

“They don’t know where to go then.
“Roger and I were quite similar like that, we both took the micky out of ourselves.
“He was a wonderful man. The only think I have got in my armoury to boast about is the fact that I was one and a half inches taller.
“But the rest of the things he was just a wonderful, wonderful, showbiz man. Just a wonderful guy.”

Looking back on his illustrious career, Jess says he remembers being a boy and watching acts from the back of the London Palladium unaware he would play the same venue countless times throughout his career.
Jess said: “I am not the greatest actor or singer – though I am not bad at both – I made some very good films like The Boys which is a classic and I have had hit records but I have also had the world’s worst record.

“I used to stand at the back of the Palladium for five shillings and I saw all the big stars there just standing at the back.
“I never thought for one day I would play the Pallium and I played it at leat ten times… a lot of charity performances of course.
“Playing it was the big thing for me and the film The Boys, and of course my history of musical theatre.”
