Sir Rod Stewart’s sang ‘awful’ in front of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at this year’s Royal Variety Performance.
ITV viewers slammed the 76-year-old’s performance of One More Time on Sunday evening.
The event was hosted by comedian Alan Carr and had Prince William and wife Kate in attendance sitting in the royal box.
Viewers were quick to take to social media after Rod took to the stage.
One wrote: “That was AWFUL sir!#RoyalVarietyPerformance
Another said: “@ITV anyone else just had third party embarrassment watching Rod Stewart? Please call it a day Rod, please. #RoyalVarietyPerformance.”
And a fourth added: “Rod Stewart…. I literally have no words for that performance #RoyalVarietyPerformance.”
Rod has had ten number-one albums and 31 top ten singles in the UK throughout his career.
However, this is not the first time the famous singer has been roasted on social media for an “awful” performance.
Last month Rod performed on The Graham Norton Show leaving viewers to say it was: “The worst thing I have seen in quite some time.”
One posted: “It was bad already, and then that key change really cemented it!”
However, some fans praised the star for his performance on The Royal Variety Performance.
One wrote: “Love a bit of Rod. Great performance and love the leopard Leopard print outfit.
Someone else said: “#RoyalVarietyPerformance here’s a daring idea. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it, instead of criticising everything. Some of us are enjoying it.”
This year’s performance at the Royal Albert Hall marked the 109th event making it the world’s longest-running entertainment show.
The event included performances from Cirque du Soleil, Years and Years, Keala Settle, James Blunt, Anne-Marie, and multi-award-winning singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran who closed the show.
During the star-studded show, host Alan Carr risked an awkward joke at the royals about “hitting on Kate Middleton.”
The comedian left ITV viewers divided after his mischievous joke.
