Strictly Come Dancing 'bans reality stars again for the 2021 lineup'

Strictly Come Dancing has once again barred reality stars from signing up to this year’s series, according to reports.

The BBC dancing show has been ‘inundated with requests’ from stars from the likes of Love Island and TOWIE but unfortunately for them, the bosses have decided that they will continue to shut them out, it’s claimed.

Speaking to The Sun a source said: “It’s no secret that Strictly had a blanket ban on fame-hungry reality stars in the past, but the celebs had hoped things would ease up a bit after a few YouTubers appeared in the line-up in past years.

“The stars have been ramping up their interest ahead of the new series and while it’s still very early in the selection process, a lot of names have been dismissed already – purely because of where they started out.

“Very few reality stars have ever made it on the show, but after seeing how well Mark Wright did after it, people are really desperate for a place.

“But, bosses are sticking to their guns on this one and it’s very unlikely any of the reality lot will make the cut.”

Reportedly there have been many requests from a number of TOWIE stars to appear on the show, especially from Gemma Collins and Fearne McCann but none have ever bagged themselves a place.

Nowadays there has been a lot of chatter about Love Island stars expressing an interest in appearing, with Amy Hart approaching bosses herself to plead her case.

And last month after quitting Gogglebox, star Tom Malone Jr said he would love to have a go on the dancing competition.

However, judge Craig Revel Horwood has dismissed the notion that reality stars like Gemma could appear on the show because they are “low rent”.

He said: “Gemma Collins would be fun on the show but it’s not very often that we have reality stars take to the ballroom.

“We generally have people of a higher calibre than that.”

Instead, it looks like Strictly has been eyeing up weathermen such as BBC’s Tomasz Schafernaker as well as Good Morning Britain’s Laura Tobin and Alex Beresford for the 19th series.

Alongside them, England’s chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty is also rumoured to be on the bosses’ wish list with his deputing Jonathan Van-Tam.

The Sun has also tipped Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s girlfriend Carrie Symonds as a favourite to be on the show, as well as Line of Duty’s Gregory Pike.

Daily Star has approached the BBC and Amy Hart’s representatives for comment.
