Strictly Come Dancing pro Anton Du Beke has an inventive way of cheering up his wife….he dances in his sequinned underpants of course!
The professional dancer is a seasoned pro when it comes to all things sparkly, so there is no wonder he grabs his glittery thong when his wife, Hannah Summers, needs a fun pick-me-up.
Anton, along with the celebrities and other professional dancers on the BBC Show are adorned in sequins, head to toe throughout the series, and their outfits often become more and more extravagant as the show progresses.
The dancer admitted: “If I see a disappointed look on her face I whip something sequin out. Just for her.
“I’m always wearing a sequin something. Invariably an underclothes of some description.”
Not all that glitters is gold however, as Anton, 54, shared that he feels a “really sharp” pain from the sequins digging into his body.
Revealing all on the Jackie Weaver Has the Authority podcast, he told: “It’s very important if you’re going to wear a sequin Y-front or a hot pant, or a thong, that when you cut the fabric you make sure you take the sequin off from the edges.
Anton is set to return to Strictly later this year, and is hopeful he will finally take home the famous Glitterball trophy.
He has previously partnered with Ann Widdecombe, Nancy Dell’Olio, Judy Murray and Ruth Langsford.
Despite his many appearances, Anton has only reached the Strictly Come Dancing final twice, in 2019 with EastEnders’ star Emma Barton and in 2004 with Lesley Garrett.
In 2020 he partnered with former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, and even took Bruno Tonioli’s place as a guest judge when travel restrictions meant Bruno could not join.
The BBC dance competition announced the full line-up of professional dancers taking part in the upcoming 2021 series in March.
The professionals joining Anton this series are; Oti, Katya, Aljaž Škorjanec, Amy Dowden, Dianne Buswell, Giovanni Pernice, Gorka Marquez, Graziano Di Prima, Janette Manrara, Johannes Radebe, Karen Hauer, Luba Mushtuk, Nadiya Bychkova, Nancy Xu, and Neil Jones.
No new dancers are joining this year but it will be the first time Nancy Xu has had a celebrity partner since joining Strictly in 2019.
Comedian Bill Bailey won 2020’s series with his partner Oti, making her the only dancer in the show’s history to win two series in a row, as she won the year before in 2019 with actor Kelvin Fletcher.
