Strictly's Robert Webb signed up to show after heart op gave him 'new perspective'

Strictly star Robert Webb has confessed this his outlook of life has changed following his heart operation in 2019.

The Peep Show star appeared with partner Dianne Buswell on Thursday morning to chat to Lorraine Kelly about their time on the show – and Robert revealed what truly encouraged him to take part.

Diane praised Robert for being a great student, and they stated that despite Robert’s heart surgery in 2019, they’re not taking it slow whatsoever – as Robert said he doesn’t need to.

He told Lorraine: “I was very lucky. It was a heart valve repair which went very well so I have normal heart function.

“I had to work quite hard to get better, taking long walks, which became runs, for a year or so.

“I was quite close to the curtain so it gives you a different perspective on life. So when they asked, I started thinking ‘I’ll do this tomorrow doesn’t feel like a good answer’, you need to do things today.

“So I thought, let’s do it now.”

Robert confessed that previously he had been on the fence about Strictly, but after the operation he decided to grab all opportunities with both hands.

It seems like he’s doing a great job, with Dianne praising her student as she said he was “perfect” and has “a lot of fun”.

Lorraine quizzed the pair on their time on the show

She added: “We’re having a laugh while training hard at the same time. I have no complaints.”

Dianne also confessed that her beau Joe Sugg had also given Robert some stern advice, telling him to make sure Dianne gives him breaks.

The fiery-red-head said: “He’s told you to make sure to take your breaks. I’ve been very nice to you, I’ve given you your lunch break. Joe was clear to make sure he gets breaks – I was a bit tougher on Joe.”

The pair will return this week following their near-miss after almost landing in the bottom two, but they managed to scrape through to Saturday’s show.

They’ll return for Movie Night this weekend.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
