The Bill favourite Jeff Stewart looks worlds away from PC Reg Hollis as he debuts his grey beard transformation.
Jeff, 66, played the popular copper from 1984 to 2008 in the ITV police drama.
PC Reg Hollis, played by Jeff, first debuted at The Bill’s fictional police station, Sun Hill, 24 years ago rocking a dark, slicked-down hairstyle with a fully clean-shaven look.
However, on his Twitter account Jeff’s profile picture shows him with longer curly hair with a fierce beard – confirming that his clean shaven look was left behind bars.
He was seen out and about in North London wearing a country-esque ensemble, rocking an open-necked check shirt under a khaki green jacket.
The Bill was an action-packed ITV drama that showcased the gritty reality of police work and aired from 1983 until 2010. Jeff, who played Reg Hollis’s character, was a significant character of the show until 2008, when the actor was sacked.
Jeff bounced back from the devastation of being discharged from the show, leaving the fans also saying farewell to his character, PC Ref, continuing with his acting career.
He said: “I didn’t see a counsellor, it was evident I was OK, and I never worried how it would affect my career.
“I thought ‘I have a choice, you can either stagnate or blossom’.”
Since acting on The Bill, Jeff has starred in several movies, including Dead Man Running (2009), Tomorrow (2010), and Under Jacob’s Ladder (2011) – where he bagged himself a top award at a Manhattan Film Festival for Best Actor.
The Bill, which first aired in 1983, was axed in 2010 by ITV after 2,425 episodes and 26 series.
Believe it or not, the show is scheduled to return with two new series, serving ITV fans with their dose of tactical police dramas and entertaining storylines – including three of the show’s original characters returning to our screens.
PC Tony Stamp, DC Jim Carver and Sgt June Ackland are among some of the OG’s said to be making a return.
