The Chase’s Jenny Ryan shares 'disappointing' news as new show is cancelled

Jenny Ryan has left fans devastated as she announced some “disappointing” news on Instagram.

The Chase star, better known by her alter ego The Vixen on the ITV quiz show, took to social media to inform her legions of loyal followers that her latest show had been postponed, despite mounting excitement from her audiences.

Jenny was set to be part of the Wizard of Oz pantomime, which was preparing to launch its tour of the UK with stars including Jenny and The One Show’s Matt Baker.

It was set to begin on December 4 at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena before moving around the rest of the United Kingdom.

Writing on Instagram, Jenny said: “Some disappointing info for those of you hoping to see me in panto this year – unfortunately the production I was due to appear in has been postponed.

“Throwback photo of me in happier panto times. Hopefully I’ll be back to fairy tale villainy in 2022!”

Jenny shared a snap of her looking spooky and formidable as ever when she appeared as the evil Carabosse in 2017 panto Sleeping Beauty, surrounded by ensemble cast and dancers.

Her fans immediately flocked to the comments section to share their disappointment, as one wrote: “Booo, that’s such a shame! Such disappointing news for you. I hope something equally as wonderful comes along for you in the meantime.”

“Why?! Tickets were sorted!” another complained, while someone else posted: “Oh no, why?”

Another loyal fan penned: “That’s such a shame. You are destined for great things jenny so I’m sure many wonderful opportunities will come your way and I’m sure you’ll have the opportunity and joy of doing a panto next year for sure.”

Keen theatre-goers were told on ticket purchasing websites that The Wizard of Oz has been “cancelled”.

Jenny is far from the only Chaser to ever appear in Pantoland, as Paul Sinha – AKA The Sinnerman – admitted he had to give up a “loved” part of his career amid his battle with Parkinson’s.

Appearing on Clive Anderson’s My Seven Wonders podcast, Paul admitted he will never be able to repeat the experience due to his declining “physical fitness” as he battles Parkinson’s.

The stand-up comedian announced he had been diagnosed with the disease in June 2019.

He explained earlier this year: “It was a very humbling thing to go through.

“The Chasers often get offered panto work because of the sort of villainy of the characters we play on the show.

“And I had no acting experience whatsoever, and whatever a triple threat is, I’m the negative.

“But I thought to myself, it’s all right! Bad actors do panto, it’s fine, it will be fine!” Paul chuckled.

The star went on: “And then you start getting the reviews in, and they keep saying, ‘And the weakest member of the cast is…’, and it becomes a familiar theme.

“So you have to switch to another mode, and the other mode was enjoying every second of doing something that I’d never done before in my life.

“And thanks to my illness, I will never do it again because I won’t have the physical fitness. And I just loved it.”
