The BAFTA TV Awards are fast approaching with the prestigious ceremony one of the most talked-about nights in showbiz.
The event itself isn’t the only aspect of the night that gets attendees in the mood for a Hollywood style shindig, the afterparty is also something spectacular in its own right.
But getting yourself invited has its very own obstacles you need to overcome if you’re planning on being part of the evening.
Then you also have to look the part with a strict dress code that needs to be adhered to if you’re walking the red carpet in London.
Here we take a look inside all the intricate details of what makes the BAFTA TV Awards so special.
Dress Code
Stars at this year’s bash have reportedly been warned to shy away from wearing anything deemed too ‘controversial’ due to the current state of world affairs.
The night will see some of the biggest names in showbiz gather at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, May 8.
However, organisers want to stay respectful to the current war in Ukraine after Russia invaded the country.
Big-name stars who are nominated on the night include Kate Winslet, Sean Bean, Stephen Graham, and Jodie Comer.
An insider told The Sun: “Several senior showbiz agents have advised stars to dress respectably, amid fears attention-grabbing dresses and suits would appear distasteful in light of the Ukraine conflict.
“The last thing they want is something like Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress or anything too controversial.”
Rules
Any production nominated in the ceremony has to have adhered to a strict set of rules – including having been broadcast between certain dates to be eligible for inclusion that year.
This rule previously saw popular shows such as Line Of Duty ruled out of being nominated in their broadcast year.
The rules change yearly to update to growing pressure on the industry to meet diversity, inclusion, and sustainability standards.
Sara Putt, Deputy Chair of BAFTA and Chair of the BAFTA Television Committee said: “Each year we consult with the industry and review our rules and eligibility criteria to ensure our awards not only reflect an evolving global industry but also help drive positive change, and this year I’m proud that we are stepping up our consultation with the industry on environmental sustainability with a view to formally adopting requirements from 2023 that will ensure a more sustainable industry for all.”
Afterparty
While not much is currently known about the afterparty plans, a BAFTA bash is always a luxurious affair and we can expect plenty of extra red carpet looks and shenanigans as the stars let their hair down and enjoy the complimentary food, drink, and goodie bags they will be lavished with.
The event is a chance for all of the winners, nominees, and celebrity guests in general to mingle and have fun after sitting through the prestigious ceremony for several hours to see the lucky few collect their gongs.
