BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood was left floored on Monday (July 18) as she made show history with one announcement.
The ‘unprecedented’ news came as the show underwent a massive shake-up, with Carol, presenter Jon Kay and business correspondent Ben Boulos all out on location, abandoning the studio altogether.
Only Nina Warhurst was left to present from the famous red sofa alone as she reflected on the battle for Conservative leadership.

But for Carol, the news that temperatures could hit 41 degrees Celsius was simply unheard of during her time on the show.
Taking to her Twitter account while hosting the show, she penned: “In all my years presenting the weather I have never before mentioned a temperature of 40 Celsius anywhere in the UK. This is unprecedented heat @BBCBreakfast xxx.”
She went on to explain: “Temperatures are likely to be highest today in parts of the Midlands, London and East Anglia. It’s here we could reach 40 Celsius.
“Tonight temperatures for some may not fall away lower than 20°. This too could have some health implications.”
Of course, it isn’t the first unprecedented announcement Carol has ever made on the show, as earlier this year she told viewers she is engaged to her mystery fella after flashing her engagement ring on air.
Speaking to Hello! Magazine after breaking the news, she explained: “It was a lovely, sunny day and we had taken a picnic with us, and we were sitting by the river, watching the boats going by.
“I turned to say: ‘What’s wrong?’ He was on his knee, and he proposed.
“At first, I thought he was joking, but he said: ‘No no, I really do mean it, Will you marry me?’ I said: ‘Yes!! Of course!”

She was previously married to Jimmy Kirkwood, and admitted she struggled to cope with her split from him and was in tears backstage.
Writing in the notes of her 2021 book Under A Greek Moon, Carol confessed that she would break down in tears before forcing a smile to present the programme as usual.
She wrote: “In a funny way though, that helped with the healing process.
“I put my grief into a compartment which I kept separate from my work, otherwise I’d have ended up in a puddle of tears. Work kept me going.”
