BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker sent a hilarious message to a gardener cutting grass during Carol Kirkwood’s weather report.
BBC weather expert Carol had been trying to deliver her weather report from the gorgeous gardens of St. James’ Park in London on Tuesday (March 22) when her segment took a disastrous turn.
Despite her best efforts to tell viewers all about what conditions they can expect from the day, Carol’s live report began to dissolve as the picture became distorted and the audio became unclear.
For the viewers at home, Carol’s weather report was fragmented and they missed out vital parts of her beloved weather insights.
Show hosts Dan Walker and Sally Nugent quickly spotted the technical gaffe as Dan could be heard saying: “Oh” in the background of the studio.
Ever the professional, Carol still managed to make it to the end of her report regardless of the interruptions.
However, if the technical issues hadn’t been enough of a problem, the hosts had also noticed a loud lawnmower running in the background of Carol’s broadcast – and they were quick to comment on it.
At first, they thought it was a leafblower, but when Carol told them it was somebody cutting the grass, Dan jokingly told them to stop interrupting their BBC show.
Sally said: “That is good to know, Carol. Well done. I wonder if there was a random leafblower.”
Dan chipped in: “I think as soon as the leafblower came on it interfered with Carol’s signal!”
Sally said: “You coped brilliantly, Carol.”
Bursting out laughing, Carol said: “They’re cutting the grass!”, to which Dan replied: “Oh is that what it is. Well tell them to stop when you’re on the telly!”
Dan’s co-stars were in stitches, and Carol jokingly added to the gardener: “Please stop!”
Moving on, Dan said: “I think we got the jist of it, didn’t we?”, which Sally agreed with.
National treasure Carol joined BBC News as a weather presenter in 1998, and she’s now a regular weather presenter on Breakfast.
Although the programme moved from London to MediaCityUK in Salford in 2013, Carol presents the weather in London via video link.
