BBC Breakfast’s weather expert Carol Kirkwood fired back at co-star Charlie Stayt when he made a cheeky comment about her dress.
National treasure Carol had just finished telling viewers about what weather conditions they can expect from the day when Naga Munchetty paused the show to talk about her blue dress.
Glam Carol was sporting a blue dress with white polka dots on Thursday’s Breakfast (February 10), and Charlie realised it looked like the rainy weather that she had mentioned in her daily report.
The anchor, who presents the BBC morning show with Naga on Thursdays to Saturdays, thought Carol might have chosen her dress to match the forecast on purpose.
Spotting the similarity, Naga said: “When the weather is like that [rainy]. Charlie noticed that you’re almost like the weather forecast today. You’re wearing what the weather forecast is.”
Looking baffled, Carol laughed and said: “Thank you, Charlie.”
Charlie said: “It’s like either little snowdrops or raindrops or something on your blue dress. Looks like you incorporated [it] somehow into the weather forecast.
Complimenting the dress, the presenter added: “I approve of that, by the way.”
Kirkwood replied: “Awh Charlie, you flatter me. Sadly, there’s not that much thinking that goes into it, it’s what’s ironed.”
However, Charlie dug himself a hole on air when he quipped: “Or semi-ironed, either way. Whatever..”
Poor Carol wasn’t having any of it though, and she looked taken aback before protesting: “What are you saying!”
Looking apologetic, Naga scratched her head nervously after she said: “Exactly, there you go Charlie…”
Scottish star Carol joined BBC News as a weather presenter back in 1998, and has worked at the broadcaster for the best part of 28 years.
