BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker drops huge hint Sally Nugent could join Strictly 2022 line-up

BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker has dropped a major hint he wants his co-star Sally Nugent to sign up for Strictly Come Dancing.

The TV presenter made it all the way to the semi-finals on the last series of the BBC ballroom show with his pro dancing partner Nadiya Bychkova – losing out to winners Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.

Now, it seems Dan wants his BBC co-star Sally to give Strictly a go, because he gave her his blessing live on their BBC Breakfast show.

On Monday’s broadcast (March 21), Dan told Sally he wanted to ‘hand the Strictly baton over to her’ – teasing she should do the hit dancing show next.

Dan said: “I’ve got a bit of fun for you this morning. I don’t have a baton, but if I had a Strictly baton, I would hand it on to you.”

Sally replied: “Like it’s a relay?”, to which Dan said: “Yes.”

Suggesting she wouldn’t do well on the show, she joked she’d “drop” the baton if he gave it to her.

Walker went on to explain Sally had just shown off her “incredible” dancing skills at the Rob Burrow Strictly ball over the weekend – a charity event to raise money for a Motor Neurone Disease care centre.

The star-studded charity event took place at Headingley in Leeds on Saturday, and it saw celebs like Sally Nugent take to the dancefloor with 10 other celebs.

Speaking about her performance, Dan said: “She was amazing.”

Viewers were then treated to footage of Sally dancing in a stunning red dress – and the BBC star was showing off some serious skills on the dancefloor despite being a beginner.

However, embarrassed Sally couldn’t look at the video, and she hid her face from the camera despite Dan telling her how “brilliant” she’d done.

Dan then pointed out her glamorous red dress, to which Sally said: “It’s a bit small, isn’t it?”

Dan sat on the judging panel alongside show pro Nadiya, before which he joked he’d channel his inner-Craig, a nod to strict judge Craig Revel-Horwood.

The lively event aimed to raise money for a Motor Neurone Disease care centre.

Speaking on her JustGiving page, Sally admitted she picked up dancing tricks from her co-star Dan.

She said: “My TV partner Dan Walker has been giving me dancing advice, but i fear I’ve got no chance. Hopefully we can make people smile. If Macy and Maya Burrow think I’ve done a good job that will be enough for me!”

Talking about the cause, she added: “We are raising money for a brand new centre for people living with motor neurone disease. It’s a horrible diagnosis. There is no treatment, there is no cure.”
